A conference on "Pakistan Economic Freedom" is being organised in April by Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) in collaboration with the Alternate Solution Institute (ASI) and the Center for Business and Enterprise (CBE) to discuss the government's policy of deregulation, trade liberalisation and institutional restructuring. Peter Andreas Bochmann, FNF resident representative, stated this here on Thursday.

The government has over the last twenty months followed a concerted policy of deregulation, trade liberalisation, institutional and infrastructural restructuring, privatisation, and most importantly allowing the free-market mechanism to dictate economic decisions.

However, this change in the vision of the policy-makers has not been adequately conveyed to the other stakeholders in the economy. This is a departure from the old ad hoc decision making approach.-PR
